Fifth International Congress of ISIPAR held at ULIM from June 24 to 27, 2014

From the 24th to 27th of June, the Free International University of Moldova is hosting the fifth edition of the International Congress of the International Association for Interpersonal Acceptance and Rejection (ISIPAR). In attendance will be world-class experts in the fields of psychology, sociology, anthropology, social work, including practitioners, researchers and academics from several countries including Puerto Rico, Spain, England, Estonia, Colombia, Greece, USA, Turkey, Israel , Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Portugal, Australia, Czech Republic, Latvia, Canada, Russia, Romania, and Moldova. The opening ceremony of the Congress was started by Andrei Galben, Rector of ULIM; Valentina Buliga, Minister of Labour, Social Protection and Family in Moldova; Ronald Rohner, Executive Director of ISIPAR and Professor Emeritus of Family Studies and Anthropology at the University of Connecticut, USA; Kate Bartlett, Deputy Secretary for Culture and Media, U.S. Embassy; Dr. Vadim Moldovan, Associate Professor at CUNY, York College, and Vice President of Project Casa Mare. The inaugural event focused on how this Congress features research that contributes to knowledge base regarding societal problems of global significance, such as violence, rejection, bullying, exclusion, gender identity, and negative interpersonal relationships.

Other notable dignitaries at the opening ceremony included representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the RM; Ministry of Health of RM; Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova; Institute of Education Sciences; SOROS Moldova; UNICEF Moldova; and Caritas Moldova.

The event was organized by ULIM in collaboration with ISIPAR and Project Casa Mare, an NGO dedicated to social work and mental health in Moldova, and was conducted in cooperation with the City University of New York and the University of Connecticut in the United States. ISIPAR was founded in 2006 by Mr. Rohner to support and encourage research and practices with reference to interpersonal acceptance and rejection including the relationship between caregivers and children; adult intimate relationships; and other interpersonal relationships throughout the life span. This association was established during the first international Congress entitled “Interpersonal Acceptance and Rejection” held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 24 June 2006. Subsequent editions of the biennial Congress were held in Greece, Italy, and India.

H.E. Ariza Gonzalez, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia in the Republic of Moldova located in Warsaw paid a visit to ULIM

The Rector of the Free International University of Moldova, Academician Andrei Galben, has met on June 4th, 2014, with H.E. Ariza Gonzalez, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia in the Republic of Moldova located in Warsaw, who was in Chisinau due to the festive ceremony of handing over her credentials to the Moldovan President.

The discussions were focused on issues of common interest related to academic, educational and cultural aspects. The both sides expressed their mutual willingness to enhance collaboration between ULIM and the Colombian Embassy in Moldova, and to establish, through the Embassy, mutually beneficial collaboration with institutions of higher education from Colombia, with the purpose of the exchange of students and teachers; promotion of curriculum development; realization of joint research projects; mobility of teachers and students etc.

ULIM’s Rector, academician Andrei Galben has informed about the ULIM’s achievements on international arena, mentioning that ULIM is interested in expanding its international horizons, search for partners and create synergies for joint projects.

In this context, he expressed his interest in exploring the possibility of strengthening the cooperation  between the two countries by signing in the nearest future  bilateral academic cooperation agreements in the field of higher education with universities from Colombia.

The Moldovan-Korean Forum: the polluted water problem in Moldova could be solved due to the Korean technologies, April 9, 2014

The polluted water problem in Moldova is an old one and every year it becomes more dangerous. Within the Moldovan-Korean Forum on the topic ,,Application of advance technologies in the agriculture from the Republic of Moldova and the development perspectives: the water quality improvement’’, there were presented the newest water purification techniques from South Korea.

The Ambassador of Great Britain to the Republic of Moldova, His Excellency Phillip David Batson visited ULIM on Thursday 27th 2014, at 11.00 am. Within the visit, His Excellency had a protocol meeting with the rector of ULIM, Andrei Galben, and a public lecture for the students and professors on the topic „Knowledge is Great”.

H.E. Marianna Sutadi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia pays Farewell Visit to ULIM

Indonesian Ambassador accredited in the Republic of Moldova, residing in Bucharest, H.E. Marianna Sutadi paid a farewell visit to ULIM on December 20, 2013, at the conclusion of her mandate.

The visiting program included also a meeting with the President of the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Nicolae Timofti, with Natalia Gherman, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European integration and with the academic community of the Free International University of Moldova as well.

In the frame of the visit at ULIM, Her Excellency had a protocol meeting with the ULIM’s administration, Mr. Andrei Galben, Rector, and Nicalae Tâu, Vice rector for International Cooperation. Mr.Rector expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Ambassador for Her contribution to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, and last but not least, between the Embassy and the Free International University of Moldova. The two interlocutors have argued the need to continue this fruitful cooperation, which was initiated in 2011 resulting in the inauguration of Aula Indonesia at Free International University of Moldova, being one of those 33 rooms from the International Gallery which ULIM hosts today. To note, that during the today’s meeting of the Ambassador with the President, N. Timofti also thanked Her Excellency for the contribution to the development of bilateral relations, expressing satisfaction for the inauguration, with the support of the Embassy, of Aula Indonesia at the Free International University of Moldova (source: http://www.prm.md ).

International Conference of Confucius Institutes, 7-8 December, 2013, China

The Confucius Institute created within the Free International University of Moldova has received a 2013 Confucius Institute Individual Performance Excellence Award. The international award was awarded at the opening ceremony of the eighth Confucius Institute Conference held on Dec. 7 at the National Congress Center from Beijing.

The honor recognizes our institute as one of the top  leaders of 440 Confucius Institutes worldwide. The ULIM Confucius Institute’s prodigious and effective activity was highly appreciated by the administration of the General Headquarters of the Confucius Institutes, in Hanban.

The event was attended by the representatives of over  500 Confucius Institutes and Centers for Chinese language and culture, University Presidents and Vice-rector of the academic centers around the world, where Confucius Institutes are operating.  Annually, in China’s capital are held such conferences, in order to make an x-ray of Confucius Institutes around the world.  Beside the balance of the concluded year, the Conference establishes the programme of activities that should be carried out in the next period.

The event was attended by Mrs. Liu Yandong, vice premier of China. During the opening ceremony of the 8th edition of the International Conference, Mrs. Liu Yandong stated that Confucius Institute was established with the aim of promoting Chinese language and culture and relations of friendship of the Chinese people with other nations of the world.

The network of these institutions has rapidly grown in the world, and the desire to learn Chinese language is growing. “Only during 2012, in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Ireland, Serbia, Moldova and in six other countries, the Chinese language was included in the national education  system” said  Mrs. Liu Yandong. This year the conference was entitled “Reflect Back, Look Forward “.

In the opening ceremony of the Conference was held the award ceremony.  Mrs. Liu Yandong awarded the “Confucius Institute of excellence” prize to outstanding Confucius Institute of the year 2013 worldwide.   To note, there are 440 Confucius Institutes in over 120 countries, 28 were  awarded this distinction this year, including Confucius Institute at  ULIM (see the list (View in Google)).   The award was handed to Mr. Andrei Galben, Academician, Rector ULIM.

In the context of this visit in China, Mr. Andrei Galben and co-directors of the Confucius Institute from China and Moldova met with Mr.  Wang Yongli,  Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters. The meeting included discussions about the Confucius Institute development and strengthening of cooperation between the ULIM and Headquarters, Pedagogical University Northwest of Lanzhou, China.

During the discussions, which were held in a cordial atmosphere, it was highlighted the important role that the Confucius Institute from ULIM has in the good friendship relations between our countries.  Chinese officials have praised the work done by our team dedicated to the Internationalization, recognized as a vital commitment at ULIM, which weaves through our education, research and service missions.

Confucius Institute was created as a result of the cooperation agreement signed in 2009 between the ULIM and the Hanban-Confucius Institutes headquarters.   The Institute constitutes  a platform for the development of the Moldovan-Chinese cultural relations for the promotion of Chinese language teaching, by courses for the general public, as well as for the support of research projects and the organization of scientific events.
